The park provides an opportunity for ST to showcase many of its environmentally friendly initiatives in one location while providing a public space for all citizens of Gaborone to learn about how easy it is to adopt sustainability and go green. There are many important components that make up the ecological park and this brochure was made to explain the importance of each of them. Feel free to visit, take advantage of the products and services provided by ST, and to enjoy this community space.
Organic Garden
As a way of educating the public and demonstrating how to cultivate organically grown vegetables, Somarelang Tikologo is operating an organic garden. No pesticides or artificial fertilizers are used to grow our nutritious vegetables. Plants are fertilised with a natural brew of chicken manure, chilli powder and food remains. Chicken manure helps to make vegetables grow without polluting our groundwater and the chilli powder scares away insects without killing them. We also use rainwater collected in tanks to water the plants, making the entire process sustainable without posing a threat to the environment.
